Mini Bio:
I am one of seven siblings and was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia. Coming from such a big family I learned early on how to share and make sacrifices. I was always told by my father I was born to sell and it must have stuck with me, I have been in sales for 15 years and currently work for an interactive advertising agency in Atlanta. I have one son and hope to one day add at least one more to my family. I became a mother at a young age and spent the majority of my adult life building a future for my son and making sure I met his needs. Four years ago once my son went to high school I realized It was time to do something for myself, get healthy and serve as a good example to my son. I had several friends who ran in a local running group so running seemed to be the obvious choice. I bought a treadmill and worked up to 3 miles before I had the confidence to run with the group. My first group run I ran 5 miles and was hooked. It was not at all what I expected, everyone was so nice and supportive. A few weeks later I ran my first race, a 10k and I can hardly express how I felt crossing that finished line. It is amazing what the simple act of running can do for someone’s mind, that day I referred to myself as a runner! I decided to train for a marathon, the ultimate running goal, I had 4 months, a lot of drive and a great support group. October 2004 I completed the Chicago marathon and what I discovered through the four months leading up that day would forever change my life. A self discovery process that opened my mind, heart and body to push to limits I did not know I was capable of. I have completed 6 marathons since that day and plan to run many many more in my lifetime. Shortly after I started running I discovered mountain biking, WOW, go out and play in the woods on a bike with friends as an adult, this is a concept I LOVE! Mountain biking quickly became my favorite physical activity and one that I most frequently share with my son. As natural progression would happen I started competing in off road (Xterra) triathlons and eventually bought a road bike and last summer completed my first “road tri”. I am not always the one who wins, places or even finishes in the top 10 percent, however I feel a victory with ever race I finish. I find myself recruiting anyone that will listen to get more active. Living an active lifestyle has helped me in every aspect of my life and offers rewards that go beyond the physical aspects. I am currently training for my first Ironman and am discovering new things about myself everyday. I will continue to live an active lifestyle for as long as my body will cooperate and allow me to push the limits of what I think I am capable of. My mantra is “as long as your moving your making progress”, this is true in every aspect of life and as I continue this journey I hope to inspire others along the way. Throughout this journey I have gained friendships, self confidence, strength and a clarity that will serve as inspiration for every aspect of my life forever.
